Between 1976 and 1990, Fran Leeper Buss conducted a series of interviews with low-income and minority women across the Southern, Western, Midwestern, and Appalachian regions of the United States. The Detroit Newspaper Strike started July 13, 1995 by the Metropolitan Council of Newspaper Unions and roughly 2,500 workers against the Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press.
