Abstract In late 1967, Herbert Hill, labor director for the NAACP, visited Wayne State University in Detroit to conduct oral histories with African American men and women on their experiences in the labor movement. She was the first African-American vice-president of the New York City AFT local and chaired their Committee for Democratic Human Relations. Abstract Rosa Parks, often referred to as the Mother of the Civil Rights Movement, is most famous for her refusal to give up her bus seat to a white rider in segregated Montgomery, Alabama in December 1955.
