He was one of the founders of the American Federation of Teachers, serving as Vice-President for fourteen years. Emil Mazey's early work history consisted of much involvement in labor organizations, including president of the United Auto Workers Briggs Local. After WWII he became Secretary-Treasurer of the UAW until his retirement.
