Abstract Born in Grand Rapids Michigan in 1909, Willis Sprague Holden earned his AB from the University of Michigan in 1930 and his MA from Columbia University in 1932, and completed his graduate work at the University of Michigan. Holden wrote for Grand Rapids, Detroit and San Francisco newspapers from 1926-1936, and the Detroit Free Press from 1940-1946.
