Collection consists of eight interviews with Finnish-American socialists on their political views, community, and lives. Recordings exist for all interviews. Transcripts exist for the following interviews: Ida Bjorkquist, Charles Jay, James Jukela, Elvera Kanerva, and Ilma Reynolds. The James Jukela interview spans more than one tape.
Interviews were conducted with the following eight participants: Ida Bjorkquist, John Bjorkquist, F. Toivo Feldt, Charles Jay, the boxer James Jukela (a.ka. Joe Rivers and Joe Weller), Elvera Kanerva, Ilmi Reynolds, and Ina Santti (nee Hanninan).

Elvera Kanerva served as primary interviewer. Kanerva was interviwed by Dione Miles.

Abstract

In 1976, an oral history project was conducted, likely spearheaded by Elvera Kanerva, who was the primary interviewer, to document the politics and lives of Finnish-American socialists.
