History

The Grand Rapids Teachers Club held their first meeting on January 7, 1907. This group included all levels of professional education - elementary, secondary and college. They were interested in the standards of education and, at a very early stage, instituted three funds for financial assistance to the members of the club. In 1963, with a revision of the structure of the teachers club and a new constitution, the group officially changed their name to the Grand Rapids Education Association. They work closely with the Michigan Education Association and the National Education Association.
