Mark Adams Radio Program Records

The collection consists of seven manuscript boxes of radio scripts and 2 file folders of correspondence and advertising. The radio scripts are from a program entitled "Mark Adams Reporting" which ran on station WWJ in Detroit from September 28, 1948 to July 26, 1951. The program was aired from 7:30 to 8:00 Tuesday evenings. The "Mark Adams" series is the result of research and study by Chester M. Culver, General Manager of the Detroit Employers Association and his assistant, Wayne Stettbacher, working in cooperation with agency executives. The program was sponsored by the Detroit Employers Association and produced by Wolfe-Jickling-Conkey, Inc., a Detroit Advertising Agency.

Series Description: Series I, General Stories: Correspondence, newspaper clippings, advertisements, and eighteen radio scripts pertaining to fictionalized stories.

Series II People in Detroit: Eighty-seven radio scripts surrounding people within the Detroit business community. Inventors" of correspondence from Detroit businessman.

According to at least on newspaper account, the program was designed in the interest of public service; to dramatize human interest stories with the indirect aim of expounding the blessings of the American free enterprise system. By presenting ordinary people in realist Detroit dramatic situations.


Arranged in 2 series – Series 1 (Boxes 1-3), and Series 2 (Boxes 3-7). Folders are arranged chronologically.


The Mark Adams Radio Program (Scripts) Collection was presented to the Walter P. Reuther Library of Labor and urban Affairs in 1971.
