Series Description: Series 1: "Eye Opener," 1954-1964: Scripts of morning radio program, 1954- 1964. Includes special programs, various news inserts, and printed excerpts from the programs.

Series 2: "Shift Break," 1957-1964: Scripts of afternoon radio program.

Series 3: "Eye Opener - PM," 1964: Scripts of late afternoon radio program.

Series 4: "Labor Views the News," 1950-1952, 1957: Scripts of evening radio program.

Series 5: Television Scripts, 1954-1957: Scripts for Ballot Box, a special pre-election series, Oct. 5-Nov. 1, 1954; Meet the UAW, weekly program, October, 1954 - December, 1956; and the daily program Telescope, October 1956 - April, 1957.

The records of the United Auto Workers Radio Department include radio and television program scripts as well as recordings of these programs and other public UAW-related events.

Arrangement

Arranged in 5 series - Series 1 (Boxes 1-36), Series 2 (Boxes 37-55), Series 3 (Boxes 56-57), Series 4 (Boxes 58-62), and Series 5 (Boxes 63-66). Folders are arranged chronologically by date of broadcast.

Acquisition

The records of the UAW Radio Department were deposited at the Walter P. Reuther Library in December 1966, and May of 1967.

Tape recordings of UAW Conventions (1955-1962), AFL-CIO Conventions (1955-1957), various "Eye Opener" and "Labor Views the News" programs (1956-1957), McClellan Senate Committee Hearings (1958), Hoffa Hearings (1957), Walter Reuther speeches and press conference (1955-1958), and miscellaneous speeches and interviews (1949-1960), including John F. Kennedy, Barry Goldwater, Patrick McNamara, Hubert Humphrey, Norman Thomas, Ralph Bunche, Nikita Krushchev, and Philip Murray.

All tapes have been placed in the Audiovisual collections.
