The UAW Local 7 papers consist of strike settlements, grievances, committee and officer minutes, correspondence, election results, agreements, resolutions, by-laws, constitutions, bulletins, clippings, and legal and financial records. They include material covering the 1950 Chrysler Strike, election results for the 1950s, grievances for the 1940s-1950s, and Plant Shop Committee, Executive Board, and Officer minutes for the mid-1940s to the mid-1960s. Local 7 is the bargaining agent for workers in the Chrysler Jefferson Auto Plant in Detroit. The local formed when the membership of the UAW and Automobile Industrial Workers Association affiliated on July 1, 1936, and received formal recognition after the five-week sit-down strike in 1937.
Arranged in 5 series – Series 1 (Box 1), Series 2 (Boxes 1-8), Series 3 (Boxes 9-17), Series 4 (Boxes 18-20), and Series 5 (Boxes 20-23). Folders are arranged alphabetically by subject or type of material. Series 2 - folders are arranged chronologically, by the steps of the grievance procedure and then numberically.
The records of UAW Local 7 were deposited at the Reuther Library in 1966 and 1988.
Approximately 30 photographs were transferred to the Reuther Library's Audiovisual Collections.
