Thomas Hendricks was an organizer for the United Auto Workers, primarily in Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana plants. His papers reflect his organizing work, in particular Indiana and Illinois plants in the 1940s.


Thomas A. Hendricks was born August 19, 1903 and spent his early years in Missouri. In February of 1930 he took a job in the Fisher Body Plant in Flint, Michigan and later was elected chief steward in the plant. In 1941 he became an international representative for the UAW and for the next 25 years worked in organizing plants primarily in Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana. Mr. Hendricks retired from the UAW International staff in May of 1967.

The papers of Thomas A. Hendricks were placed by him in the Archives of Labor and Urban Affairs in August of 1987 and were opened for research in August of 1991.
