The papers of Mr. Crosby, consisting of correspondence, memoranda, reports, and miscellaneous papers reflect his activities in Local 3 and document the factionalism that, surfaced in the guild in New York City in the late 1930s and early 1940s.

History

Alexander Crosby was active in union affairs of Local No. 3, New York City of the American Newspaper Guild in the late 1930s and early 1940s. He was on the staff of the Labor Press and served several years as its unit chairman. He also served a term as vice-president of the Newark Guild, was a member of the New York Executive Committee, and was active in union negitiations.

Alexander Crosby was an active member of the American Newspaper Guild Local 3 (New York City) and worked on the staff of the Labor Press. Mr. Crosby’s papers reflect his activities in Local 3.

Acquisition

The papers of Alexander L. Crosby were placed in the Archives of Labor and Urban Affairs in June of 1983 by David Eisen and were opened for research in December of 1990.
