The papers of Reverend Winthrop Yinger consist of several bibliographies of materials relating to Cesar Chavez and of documents in the San Joaquin Valley Farm Workers Collection in the Special Collections depart-ment of the Fresno State College Library. In addition, there is a copy of a proposal for establishing a farm workers education and research center at Delano, California.

Winthrop Yinger served as the Executive Director of the Fresno Area Council of Churches and the Fresno Area Migrant Workers and in the English Department of Fresno State College, where he established a repository of materials related to the farm worker movement. Mr. Yinger's papers relate to Cesar Chavez and the San Joaquin Valley Farm Workers Collection of Fresno State College.
Winthrop Yinger was a clergyman in San Joaquin Valley in 1965. He left his church owing to his connection with the Migrant Ministry and Cesar Chavez and took the position of Executive Director of the Fresno Area Council of Churches and the Fresno Area of Migrant Workers. In 1968, he joined the English Department of Fresno State College. Here he began a repository of materials on the farm worker movement and obtained a research grant to establish the Institute for Study of Contemporary Rhetoric and Communication. He subsequently took a master's degree in rhetoric from Fresno State, with his thesis being a study of the rhetoric of Cesar Chavez.

The papers of Winthrop Yinger were placed in the Archives of Labor and Urban Affairs in August of 1970 by the Reverend Winthrop Yinger and were opened for research in January of 1989.
