Scope and Content

The papers of Truda Weil consist primarily of correspondence and drafts of speeches relating to the Henry Richardson Linville Memorial Lecture given in New York City in June of 1947, plus several items relating to the Henry R. Linville Award for 1959. Included in the correspondence are six letters from John Dewey to Truda Weil. Henry R. Linville was elected President of the Teachers' Union of New York City in 1916 and served as President and Executive Director until 1935. He also served as President of the American Federation of Teachers from 1931 to 1934.

Truda Weil was Executive Secretary of the original Teacher's Union of New York City from 1923 to 1928 and served in the same capacity to the New York Teacher's Guild from 1935 to 1936. Subsequently, she became confidential secretary to a member of the New York City Board of Education. Ms. Weil died in February of 1971.

Ms. Weil’s papers relate to the Henry Richardson Linville Memorial Lecture of 1947 and the Henry R. Linville Award of 1959. Included in the collection is correspondence between Ms. Weil and John Dewey.
