History
The QUIUNA was founded in September 1903 as a result of a merger of several labor unions affiliated with the American Federation of Labor (AFL). Prior to this time the AFL had chartered two short -lived national unions of such workers during the late years of the nineteenth century - the Quarrymen's National Union of the United States of America (1890 - 1900) and the National State Quarrymen's Union (1895 - 1898). In 1938, QUIUNA withdrew from the AFL and received a charter from the Congress of Industrial Organization (CIO) and in 1941, the unions' title was changed to the United Stone and Allied Products Workers of America (USAPWA). In January 1971 the USAPWA merged with the United Steel Workers of America (USWA).
