United Auto Workers Local 174 records include the files of Edwin Reno and reflect the relationship of the local with the companies whose employees they represented.

History

UAW Local 174 was formed in 1936 by a group of UAW organizers. Walter Reuther served as its first president. It is noted for its successful sit-down strike in 1936 that resulted in a contract with the Kelesy-Hayes Wheel Company.

Arrangement

Arranged in 3 series – Series 1 (Boxes 1-3), Series 2 (Boxes 1-23), and Series 3 (Boxes 1-16). Folders are arranged generally in chronological order and by company name.

Acquisition

Deposited to the Walter P. Reuther Library in 1962, 1965 and 1992.
