The papers consist of photocopies from the National Archives and Records Service (file no. 199/3975) of correspondence, memoranda, clippings, and teletype reports relating to the General Motors strike of July and August 1939. They focus primarily on the efforts of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, through the services of Commissioner James F. Dewey, to attain a settlement of the strike.
