History

The Student Education Council (SEC) is a representative form of student government in the College of Education. It provides an opportunity for an organized group of students to actively participate and share in the responsibility of their own education. The Charter of the SEC was approved by the Faculty Council of the College of Education and the Faculty Assembly in April, 1962. The SEC consists of twelve members elected in the spring quarter by the students in the College of Education, and of associate members who are interested, nonelected students. Primarily the SEC serves as a means of facilitating communication be-tween the students and the faculty-administration within the College of Education. It coordinates the activities and budgets for the multiple education clubs, and sends three representatives to the Student-Faculty Council. The SEC carries out its activities through various committees, and also fosters the informal meeting of students who wish to develop new ideas and play a role in formulating professional programs consistent with the goals of teacher preparation.
