Abstract
Oliver Cromwell Cox was born on August 25, 1901 in Trinidad but came to America for his education. He obtained a degree in law from Northwestern University in 1928, but after losing the full use of his legs due to Polio, Cox continued his education rather than returning to Trinidad. In 1932 he obtained a masters from the University of Chicago in Economics, completing his thesis on workingmen's compensation. Trying to better understand the influences affecting economics, Cox returned to the University of Chicago, this time to graduate with a Ph.D. in Sociology. During his career as a Professor, Cox worked at Wiley College, Tuskegee Institute, Lincoln University, and Wayne State University. Cox passed away in 1974.
