Scope and Content

The Wayne RESA Records collection contains mostly historic material from the first half of the 20th century on Wayne County public schools including manuals, school directories, financial and statistical information. Additionally, found in this collection are notes from School Board of Examiners meeting in 1902 and letters about rural schools written circa 1911 by County Commissioner of Schools Eber Yost and also Mildred B. Williams. The material in this collection created in the second half of the 20th century pertains primarily to Wayne Intermediate School District, its reorganization in the 1960s, work on a Dearborn Heights study, and a 25th anniversary scrapbook from 1986.

History

Originally created as Wayne Intermediate School District, the agency eventually changed to Wayne Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA) sometime after 1986. This organization provides services to the 33 school districts within Wayne County with the aims of improving student achievement, staff development, purchasing, and administrative services.

Abstract

Wayne Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA), an organization originally known as Wayne Intermediate School District, provides services to the 33 school districts within Wayne County with the aims of improving student achievement, staff development, purchasing, and administrative services.

The Wayne RESA Records collection contains mostly historic material on Wayne County public schools including manuals, school directories, and financial and statistical information. Some early 1900s letters and meeting notes, and monthly reports are also present. The material in this collection created in the second half of the 20th century pertains primarily to Wayne Intermediate School District, its reorganization in the 1960s, work on a Dearborn Heights study, and a 25th anniversary scrapbook from the 1986.

Arrangement

Folders are arranged with historic Wayne County schools material in the front of the collection, and Wayne Intermediate School District materials towards the back of the collection. Within in this arrangement, materials are roughly ordered alphabetically.

Acquisition

The Wayne Regional Educational Service Agency Records collection was donated to the Walter P. Reuther Library on February 12, 2007.
