Kenneth Forbes involvement with UAW as well as his political views and involvement in the Democratic party are also covered. Abstract

This collection consists of the papers of Kenneth Forbes, a UAW leader in the Saginaw area. Forbes held different offices in the union including the President of Local 455 and was also active politically. His collection covers his active years in the union and his retirement and gives a glimpse into the life of the politics and challenges of an elected official in the UAW.

History

Kenneth Forbes was born c. 1906. He eventually came to work at the Saginaw Malleable Iron Plant. In 1937, Forbes became involved with the UAW. He was elected president of the UAW Local 455 in 1938 and held the position for a number of years. Forbes also held the office of UAW-GM Department international representative as well as Region 1D Director. In addition to his work with UAW, Forbes was an active Democrat and ran for a position in the House of Representatives in 1954.
