UAW Local 662 serves the General Motors plant, Delco-Remy Division in Anderson, Indiana. Local 662 received its charter on May 16, 1939. With in a year of that date it supplanted the former UAW Local 146 of Anderson Indiana, which had originated in 1935 and had served both the Delco-Remy plant and the Guide lamp plant of Anderson. Local 146 had received its major growth impetus from the events surrounding the Anderson area sit down strikes of 1937 and the organizing efforts of Victor Reuther. Local 146 split into Locals 662 and 663 at the time of the Homer Martin factional controversy.
