Abstract

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) was founded in 1921 as a union of flat janitors. Over the years it has grown in size and scope, and now comprises three divisions: healthcare, property services, and public services. Mr. Morton H. Shapiro was a rank-and-file member within SEIU. Over the years he collected an assortment of political campaign bumper stickers and posters generated by CSEA-SEIU Local 1000, which are the materials found within this collection.

Acquisition

The SEIU Morton Shapiro Papers were donated by Sandra G. Shapiro to the Reuther Library in December 2012. The Reuther Library serves as the official repository for SEIU.
