Series Description: Series 1: New Voices Campaign, 1996 Correspondence, speeches, and materials related to the New Voices Campaign and the 1996 SEIU Convention.

Series 2: Secretary Treasurer’s Office, 1992-1996 Materials used and/or created by the SEIU Secretary Treasurer’s Office including meeting minutes, resolutions for AFL-CIO and other organizations’ conventions, 1992 SEIU Convention materials.

Series 3: Executive Vice President’s Office, 1998-2003 Materials generated by or for Executive Vice President Patricia (Pat) Ford including reports, presentations, speeches, and talking points.

Series 4: Subject Files and Conventions, 1999-2008 Reports on immigration and the President’s Committee 2000, September 11th SEIU Relief Fund correspondence, but is predominantly 2000, and 2004 SEIU Convention materials.

Series 5: Audiovisual Materials, 1996-2008 Includes photographs, an embosser, T-shirts, pins, VHS and audio cassettes, DVDs, and CDs.

Most of the records in this collection document aspects of this group’s leadership, with the majority of records from the New Voices campaign, the Secretary-Treasurer’s Office (primarily materials relating to AFL-CIO and other organization’s conventions), the Executive Vice President’s office (predominately Pat Ford’s speeches and talking points), subject files and convention records, and audiovisual materials. Records include correspondence, reports, resolutions and amendments, speeches and talking points, photographs, posters, T-shirts, pins, VHS and audio cassettes, CDs, and DVDs.

History

In 1996 Andy Stern was elected President of SEIU and the members of Stern’s New Voices slate took office (Betty Bednarczyk, Patricia (Pat) Ford, Eliseo Medina, and Paul Policicchio).

Arrangement

Arranged in 5 series – Series 1 (Box 1), Series 2 (Boxes 1-2) and Series 3 (Box 2), Series 4 (Boxes 2- 3), Series 5 (Boxes 4-6). Folders are arranged in original order.

Acquisition

The materials in the collection were deposited at the Reuther in three accessions from July 2005 to July 2008. The Reuther serves as the official repository of SEIU.
