Scope and Content

The collection is composed of the general file of the Minneapolis Air Line Pilots Association and the special Rali—Lee Refund account. The collection covers the years 1949 to 1969.

Series Description: Series I, General Office Files: This series consists primarily of items relating to air safety from specific accidents to near accidents, as well as reports on safety, financial records, including bank statements, expenses, taxes, and grievance files. The bulk of the material in this series relates to Northwest Airlines, and extends chronologically from the year 1949 to 1969. The largest bulk of the material covers the years, 1950-64.

Series II, Rail-Lee Refund Account: This series consists of the financial records including assessments, cancelled checks, expenses, bank statements relating to the ALPA financial support of two pilots during a prolonged dispute with an airline carrier during the years 1965-70. The Rail-Lee Refund Account was set up for that purpose.

Abstract

Correspondence, reports, and financial records pertaining to the activities of ALPA in the Minneapolis, Minnesota, area. These records are divided into two series. The main topics covered are air safety (including accident reports) and finances. Series two contains information concerning the Rall-Lee Refund Account.

Arrangement

Arranged in 2 series – Series 1 (Boxes 1-8), and Series 2 (Boxes 9-11). Folders are arranged alphabetically.

Acquisition

The papers of the Minneapolis Joint Council Office of the Air Line Pilots association were deposited with the Archives of Labor History and Urban Affairs in July 1970 and October, 1971.
