William Huphreys was one of the early organizers of UAW Local 539 which served the Campbell, Wyant and cannon Foundry Company of Muskegon, Michigan. He held several offices in Local 539, including the office of President. Mr. Humphreys also served as a Vice-President of the Michigan CIO Council. In 1947 Mr. Humphreys was appointed an International Representative of the UAW and was assigned to the Region 1A staff in Detroit. It was during his tenure as an International Representative that Mr. Humphreys engaged in local negotiations that are reflected in his papers on deposit with the Archives.

Correspondence, minutes, briefs, agreements, clippings, and miscellaneous materials collected by Mr. Humphreys, who served as president of UAW Local 539 at the Campbell Wyant and Cannon Foundry, Muskegon, Michigan; vice-president of Michigan CIO Council; UAW International representative; and assistant director of the UAW Foundry Wage and Hour Council. Subjects include NLRB election at Albion Malleable Iron Company (1952-53), and National War Labor Board (1945).
Minutes are bound and arranged chronologically.
The papers of William Humphreys were placed in the Archives of Labor and Urban Affairs in October of 1965 by Mr. Humphreys and were opened for research in December of 1965.
