History
Mr. Pieper was an early leader in the unionization of the auto industry, having served on the UAW executive board in the mid 1930's. He was active in UAW Local 34 which serviced the GM Plant in Atlanta, Georgia. He was one of the leaders of the 1936 strike against that plant, which led to the Flint sit-downs of 1937. In 1939 Mr. Pieper was a representative of the CIO in the South, particularly the New Orleans area. He is presently the Director of Region 19, AFL-CIO in Denver, Colorado.

Abstract
Fred Pieper was an early leader in the unionization of the auto industry. His papers reflect his work for the United Auto Workers and the Congress of Industrial Organizations in the South.
