Collection consists of interview recordings with these auto workers and labor organizers on their perspectives on or involvement with communism and the radical left, and its influence on the development of the UAW. Four interviews also have written summaries containing biographical sketches and listings of important names mentioned. Some interviews span multiple tapes, and some tapes contain multiple interviews. Audio quality on some recordings is poor.
Six interviews were conducted with the following seven participants: Irwin "Irv" Baur (also known as Erwin Baur) and Estar Baur (interviewed together; Irwin Baur also interviewed separately); Marty and Jessie Glaberman (interviewed together); Arthur "Art" McPhaul; Phil Raymond; and John Zupan.

Interview summaries exist for the following four interviews: Irwin Baur, Arthur McPhaul, Phil Raymond, and John Zupan (interviewed twice, August 6 and August 17).

Abstract

In 1971, Roger Keeran interviewed seven radical auto workers and labor organizers for his book The Communist Party and the Auto Workers Unions. Collection consists of interview recordings with these auto workers and labor organizers on their perspectives on or involvement with communism and the radical left, and its influence on the development of the UAW. Four interviews also have written summaries containing biographical sketches and listings of important names mentioned. Audio quality on some recordings is poor.
