William A. Ryan Papers
Scope and Content
These office papers come from his political period of 1968-1970, during which he was the Democratic Speaker of the House for the Michigan State Legislature. For the most part they consist of correspondence received from his constituency. The important topics covered are Parochiaid, whether the state should help subsidize private schools; and P.A. 100 (Subsection 6 of Section 8a of Act 100, Public Act of 1970), the State School Aid Act. These issues, and other education related issues, are covered in the first three boxes of the collection. The final box covers his general correspondence files, again mainly from his constituents.
