CIO Housing Committee: Leo Goodman Records

Most of the records in this collection comprise the office files of Leo Goodman, who was director of the CIO Housing Committee from 1948 to 1955. Although most of these records pertain to housing, some relate to natural resources and power, as Mr. Goodman was also secretary of the CIO Committee on Power, Atomic Energy and Resources Development. Most of the records in this collection fall within the dates 1948-1955. There are about twelve items dated 1940-1943, and there are a few records dated January and Feb-ruary, 1956.

Series 1: Non-CIO Organizations Correspondence, reports, newsletters, bulletins, press releases, newspaper clippings, and pamphlets.

Series 2: U.S. Government Agencies Correspondence, reports, press releases, and newsletters. There is some documentation in this series on a program for low-cost housing projects in foreign countries.

Series 3: Office File Correspondence, reports, press releases, testimony, and newspaper clippings. The documentation pertaining to the lumber industry and to the endorsements of Margaret Chase Smith is in this series.

Series 4: Foreign Housing Press releases, newsletters, newspaper clippings, and pamphlets. There is some correspondence and few other non-published records.

Arranged in 4 series – Series 1 (Boxes 1-4), Series 2 (Boxes 4-5), Series 3 (Box 6), and Series 4 (Boxes 7-9). Folders are arranged alphabetically.

Acquisition

The papers of the Congress of Industrial Organizations: Housing Committee were placed in the Archives of Labor History and Urban Affairs in June of 1969.
