John Oneka, a former member of the IWW, was a member of UAW Local 235 at the Chevrolet Gear and Axle Plant. At various times he served as its president, trustee, and Shop Committee chairman. The papers include some of the Shop Committee minutes for 1937-46 and materials on political matters, the IWW, Medicare, and other union concerns. Among the correspondents are John Dingell and Philip Hart.


John Oneka was a member of Local 235, Hamtramck, Michigan, which services the Chevrolet Gear and Axle plant. While with Local 235, Oneka served in many capacities. He was an early chairman of the Shop Committee, holding that position in the late 1930's. Oneka also served as president of Local 235 and was at one time a member of the local's Board of Trustees.
