Abstract

The American Federation of Teachers (AFT), was founded in 1916 to improve the working lives of teachers through out the country by affiliating with the AFL-CIO. The Southern Regional Office is one of five satellite offices of the AFT located in Atlanta, Georgia. It represents teachers, paraprofessionals, and school-related personnel who are members of AFT in the states of: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Washington D.C. The function of the office is to assist in organizing local affiliates, help with negotiating a contract for the local and lend support in various education reform initiatives taking place in the region.

Arranged in 3 series – Series 1 (Boxes 1-8), Series 2 (Boxes 9-10) and Series 3 (Boxes 11-15). Folders in each series are simply listed by their location within each box. They are not arranged, so any given subject may be dispersed throughout several boxes within each series.
