Collection consists of recordings and transcripts for a series of three interviews. Gribbs discusses his background, education, and early career in law and law enforcement, including his time as sheriff of Wayne County following the 1967 civil unrest. During his tenure he undertook departmental reforms, including addressing minority underrepresentation on the force, and he appointed William "Bill" Lucas as undersheriff. He talks about his time as mayor, from 1970 to 1974, including appointing Detroit's first African American deputy mayor, Walter Greene, and dealing with the city's fiscal challenges. He describes special programs he implemented, such as the Neighborhood Youth Corps and the Emergency Employment Act, as well as housing issues.

Collection consists of recordings and transcripts for a series of three interviews. Gribbs discusses his background, education, and early career in law and law enforcement, including his time as sheriff of Wayne County following the 1967 civil unrest, and his time as mayor, from 1970 to 1974.
