Abstract

The Labor Committee for Safe Energy and Full Employment was formed from a coalition of labor unions opposed to the expansion of the nuclear energy industry, and in part, as a reaction to the Three Mile Island nuclear accident. The committee's records primarily document their promotion of a protest march on March 28, 1981, the second anniversary of Three Mile Island.

History

The Labor Committee for Safe Energy and Full Employment is a coalition of labor unions opposed to the expansion of the nuclear energy industry. It was founded, in part, in reaction to the Three Mile Island nuclear accident which occurred near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in March of 1979. The Committee took the position that the production of nuclear energy was not only hazardous union workers engaged in the production of conventional fuels.
