This collection includes administrative materials, news clippings, and advertising materials for the organizations’ special events.

History

ARISE Detroit! is a non-profit coalition of twenty-two community groups with the mission of encouraging volunteerism in order to tackle major issues troubling the Detroit community, including illiteracy, the high school dropout rate, crime and youth violence, drug abuse, domestic abuse, neighborhood blight, and unemployment. The coalition was established in 2006 with the assistance of a $300,000 grant from the Skillman Foundation, one of its founding partners.

ARISE Detroit!’s current executive-director is Luther Keith, a former editor and columnist for the Detroit News. Keith became involved with the organization in reaction to the many quality of life issues that he encountered during his time as a journalist.
