Since that time the membership has grown to near 7,000, the majority of Local 199 members are employed by McKinnon Industries, a subsidiary of General Motors. Since 1940, the UAW , and Local 199 in turn, has been affiliated with the Canadian Congress of Labor. This is the parent body for industrial unions in Canada.
