These scrapbooks chronicle the Flint Sit-Down Strike by the United Automobile Workers of America against General Motors as it was recorded in Flint newspapers. Clippings are also included which report related events elsewhere. There are no clippings prior to January 1, 1937.

There is also included in the collection a scrapbook devoted to the Flint Trolley Coach Strikes of 1938 and 1939. In addition to the scrapbooks there is a small quantity of papers related to each strike.


Arranged in 2 series – Series 1 (Boxes 1-4), Series 2 (Box 4). Materials are arranged chronologically.


This collection was given to the Archives of labor and Urban Affairs in January of 1972.


An anti-CIO pamphlet titled The Hell of Herrin Rages Again has been placed in the Archives Library.
